What Is a Satin Banner?
Are you looking at a satin banner and trying to decide if that is the fabric for this job? Here at Digital Media Warehouse, we believe in finding the best fit and the best price. A satin banner is a heavyweight coated fabric with a soft, low-glare sheen. It hangs, it drapes, and it holds up better than a thin poster film when the graphic is supposed to move.

What a satin banner is used for
Use satin fabric when the graphic is a real banner, not a stiff board.
- Hanging banners
- Theater drops
- Decor and gallery wraps
- Any wide-format fabric job where tear resistance matters
The finish on the roll we stock is a matte, semi-satin coat. You get a little sheen, not a glossy spotlight. It is water resistant and tear resistant, which is why shops keep using it for displays that get handled.
If the job is a flat poster that has to lay on a table without curling, look at matte polypropylene instead. If the graphic has to glow from behind, you want backlit film.

The 12 mil heavyweight satin banner
Our satin banner stock is a 12 mil super heavyweight coated fabric, item QM-SPFSS. Same fabric, two widths:
- 12 mil satin coated fabric banner, 36 x 100, 3-inch core
- 12 mil satin coated fabric banner, 54 x 100, 3-inch core
Both run on most solvent, eco-solvent, latex, and UV wide format printers. Pick 36-inch when the printer and the finished banner are in that width. Pick 54-inch when you need a wider drop without a seam.
Satin fabric versus a blockout film
Fabric hangs and folds. A blockout film stays flatter and stops light from blowing through the print. For a pop-in display or a trade show panel that should not show the stand behind it, a blockout film is the closer match. For a banner that has to hang from a ceiling or wrap a frame, stay with the satin fabric.
Both live in our wide format media. If you tell us the printer and whether the piece hangs or stands, we can point you at the right roll. Call 1 (800) 576-8182.
